Membership

The club does not exist solely for those with sailing boats and offers a range of activities and categories of membership as described below. Application forms are available in the Clubhouse, on the website or by contacting the Membership Secretary hon.membershipsecretary@royalwelshyachtclub.org.uk

All subscriptions run from 1st January to 31st December each year. Subscription and joining fees for Overseas Members are set at half the corresponding fees for Full Members.
New membership applications must be proposed and seconded by current club members and then accepted by the RWYC General Committee who meet monthly.

Details of categories

Full – includes member’s partner and children and is entitled to one vote per membership.

Senior – those who have achieved the age of 65 years. Includes member’s partner and children and is entitled to one vote per membership.

Social – those who do not have boats and who do not use the Club’s rowing boats. Includes member’s partner and children but does not have voting rights.

Overseas – those whose principal residence is outside the UK and shall not remain in the UK for longer than a total of 90 days in any relevant year. Includes member’s partner and children but does not have voting rights.

Cadet – person who at the date of application and on 1st January of each subsequent year is under the age 26. A Cadet member does not have voting rights.

The Royal Welsh Yacht Club’s status as “Royal” means that members who meet the specified criteria are entitled to fly the prestigious defaced Blue Ensign, which can be applied for through the Hon. Secretary hon.secretary@royalwelshyachtclub.org.uk

What you get as a Member of the RWYC

The Royal Welsh Yacht Club operates an attractive package including:

All Members

  • Use of Clubhouse bar, open five evenings a week and with regular social events throughout the year.
  • Free wi-fi
  • Club hire for private functions at members’ rate

All Non-Social Members

  • Use of Club boats and safety equipment for all membership categories except Social. These are currently:
    • Three four-oared Celtic Longboats
    • Two Yoles
    • A Whilly daysailer boat
  • Use of showers
  • Use of laundry facilities
  • Use of laptop for accessing charts

Newcomers may row or sail free in two taster sessions. Then they will be invited to join the Club if they wish to continue rowing or sailing.
